UPDATED: You do not need an external power supply. You plug the included USB cord into your laptop and your laptop acts as the power supply to power the USB hubs as well as the two fans. This allows you to use it as a docking station and connect an external monitor to your laptop. Add an external keyboard and mouse and you have a great docking stand with fans.
